Understanding India’s Real Affordability

We’re PriceMap India Private Limited, and we’ve dedicated ourselves to making cost of living data transparent and accessible across every region of India.

Professional data analytics workspace showing cost of living research

Why We Started This Work

Here’s the thing: most people don’t really know what life costs in different parts of India. You’ll see headlines about inflation or wage growth, but they don’t tell you what it actually means to live in Mumbai versus Madhya Pradesh. We’re solving that.

PriceMap India Private Limited was built on a simple frustration. When we looked at purchasing power data, we found it scattered across government reports, academic papers, and private surveys. Nothing was coordinated. Nothing was truly useful to people making real decisions about where to work, where to live, or how to plan their finances.

So we decided to do something different. We’ve gathered real pricing data from metro centers and rural areas, analyzed income patterns across regions, and created tools that actually help people understand their own affordability index. Not theory. Real numbers. Real comparisons. Real insight into regional price differences that matter.

Resources That Make a Difference

Regional Price Tracking

We monitor housing, food, transport, and utilities across metro areas and rural regions. You’ll see how costs vary dramatically between Delhi and Dehradun, between Bangalore and Bihar.

Purchasing Power Analysis

Earning 50,000 rupees doesn’t mean the same thing everywhere. We help you understand what your salary actually buys you in different regions of India.

Affordability Index Tools

Our interactive tools let you calculate living costs for your specific situation. Enter your income, choose your location, and get real affordability metrics instantly.

Metro vs Rural Comparisons

We’ve mapped the real differences between urban centers and countryside living. See exactly where your money stretches further and where costs bite harder.

How We Build This Data

01

Primary Research Across Regions

We don’t rely on assumptions. Our team conducts ongoing price surveys in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Kolkata, plus tier-2 cities and rural areas. We collect actual retail prices, rent data, and service costs.

02

Income Assessment Framework

Purchasing power isn’t just about prices—it’s about what people actually earn. We analyze wage data across sectors and regions to understand real income patterns and how they’ve changed over time.

03

Affordability Index Calculation

We’ve developed a proprietary methodology that weighs essential costs—housing, food, transport, utilities—against local income levels. This gives you a real affordability picture for any location.

04

Continuous Updates & Validation

Costs change. Salaries shift. We update our data quarterly and validate findings against government statistics, industry reports, and on-the-ground feedback from users across India.

Our Commitment to You

We believe transparent data creates better decisions. Whether you’re considering a job offer in a new city, planning where to start a business, or simply trying to understand your financial reality, we’re here with practical resources that actually reflect India’s regional diversity.
